Five Places the Season Hasn't Reached Yet: The Garden Bed, the Hearth, the Shelf, the Oven and the Stairs

Pinterest’s list of trending product categories for home decor has a pattern this week. Gardening tools are up 264% month over month, seasonal and Christmas decorations are up 77%, fireplace accessories are up 46%, bakeware and wreaths and garlands are up 36% each and figurines are up 27%. These are the categories where people left the app and went to buy something, and they all point at the same thing: one more place in the house or the garden that the season hasn’t reached yet. So here are five finds, one for each.

The garden bed, and the afternoon you plant spring. October is when tulips and daffodils go in the ground, and gardening tools are the fastest-growing category on the list. This set is 3 pieces: a bulb planter with depth markings that releases the soil with a squeeze, a transplanter and a dibber for small bulbs and seeds. You can plant a whole border in one afternoon and not think about it again until it flowers. 4.6 stars from 521.

The hearth, and the tools that stand tidy beside it. This is a 5-piece set in black wrought iron with a poker, a brush, a shovel and tongs, all on one welded frame that stands 30 inches tall. The one-piece stand does not wobble and keeps the tools off the hearth, so the first fire of the season starts tidy. 4.6 stars from 669.

The shelf, and three ghosts that glow. This set is 3 ceramic ghosts, about 4 inches tall, in black, white and pink with gold bats, stars and moons. Each wears a small witch hat and holds a tealight, so the eye holes glow. Three tealights come in the box. Line them up on a bookshelf or a mantel and the whole shelf looks like Halloween. 4.6 stars from 672.

The oven, and a pan that does the decorating. The Nordic Ware Pumpkin Patch Bundt has a bronze nonstick finish and a design of pumpkins and leaves, so any batter comes out already decorated. Spice cake, pound cake or apple cake all take the shape, and the cake itself becomes the centrepiece on the table. 4.8 stars from 269.

The stairs, and a garland that does the whole banister. This garland is 9 feet long, with soft, realistic cedar sprays and warm white lights built in, plus a remote to switch them. Drape it along the banister in loose swags and secure it at each post. It is early for Christmas, but the Christmas searches are already up 77%. 4.7 stars from 287.

If you only have an afternoon, do the garden bed first. Bulbs need to be in before the ground freezes, and everything else on this list can wait until the weekend.
