Chrome Is Up 2,500% — and Four Other Trends That Came Out of Nowhere This Week

For six straight weeks the trend list has been one long autumn. Porches, mantels, bedding, bathrooms, dining tables — every ranking a slightly different shade of rust. This week the spotlight came back with five trends and not one of them is seasonal. Chrome home decor is up 2,500% on the month, which is the biggest single jump we have seen on this board all year. Behind it: toddler bedrooms at 1,000%, laundry folding tables at 500%, apartment rooms at 300% and dog spaces at 100%, climbing in home décor and animals at the same time.

That is not a seasonal wave. That is people looking past the pumpkins at the rooms they actually live in.

Chrome came back, and it came back as sculpture. For a decade silver meant a mirrored tray from 2011 and everyone stayed away from it. What is trending now is the opposite of that — heavy mirror-polished shapes treated as objects rather than storage. This set of two ceramic vases is the cheapest way into it: 12 inches and 9.4 inches tall, glazed in a silver bright enough to throw the whole room back at you, each one cut with a hollow oval so the wall shows straight through the middle.
